Depression

Depression may stem from many sources.  Most often, biological vulnerability and early loss combine to make one more sensitive to current losses, trauma, or long term stress.   Cognitive or psychodynamic therapy, meditation and exercise, medication and couples or family therapy all may have a place in treatment. You and your therapist collaborate in determining the best treatment for you.

Anxiety/Panic

Anxiety and chronic stress take a toll on one’s health, relationships, and productivity. You may be dealing with a current life situation that is overwhelming, or with a recent or past trauma; or you may constantly feel “stressed out.” Our therapists use a variety of approaches, including psychodynamic or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, EMDR, and medication to help people obtain lasting relief and greater resiliency.

Women's Issues

Women often come to therapy to deal with the unique stressors and pressures of balancing identity, work and family. We bring a deep understanding of the complexity of gender issues and women’s psychology to our therapy approach. We help women to set priorities, engage in self care, deal with life transition difficulties, and live a more balanced life.

Men’s Issues

Men present in therapy with problems related to their physical and emotional health, marital difficulties, parenting skills, and lack of close friendships with other men; but they are often resistant to therapy for personal and cultural reasons. We help men develop a positive therapeutic alliance in individual and couples therapy. We augment this work with men’s groups that focus on developing emotional intimacy and friendship skills.

Sex Addiction/Compulsion

Sexual issues can be among the most difficult to discuss, particularly when there is a question of the behavior being out of control. We offer evaluation and treatment to individuals and couples aimed at understanding the dimensions of the situation and decreasing the impulsive/compulsive behaviors that may be a problem.

Sleep/Insomnia

Most of us take sleep for granted until it becomes a problem. Poor sleep impacts one’s overall well-being and emotional and physical health. Sleep problems may be a symptom of a medical and/or psychological condition. Our therapists evaluate and treat insomnia and other sleep issues. In addition, our sleep specialist uses  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)  to treat persistent sleep problems.

Eating Disorders, including Compulsive Overeating

Young or old, male or female, anyone can develop problems with food, eating, and body image. Our specialists who work with the full range of eating issues including anorexia, bulimia, compulsive overeating, poor eating habits, and parenting the difficult eater. We coordinate care with pediatricians, family practitioners, and nutritionists to provide comprehensive care when needed.

Work Related Difficulties

Stress-related problems arise in and around work and the workplace. Career choices,  decision-making, leadership and work relationships, changes in job status, and retirement each bring their own challenges and conflicts.  We assess the emotional impact of these issues on individuals and family members, and help plan strategies to support both career development and work/life balance.
