Ellen Berman MD is a psychiatrist and family therapist, and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Areas of expertise include couples therapy, adults and their families, time management in professional couples, and the interaction between depression and couples dysfunction. Dr Berman trained at the University of Pennsylvania, was Director of Training at Marriage Council of Philadelphia (now Council for Relationships) from 1972 through 1984, and founded and consulted to the Women’s Center at Belmont 1984-1996. Currently she coordinates the adult systems teaching at the Department of Psychiatry, U of P. Dr. Berman is on the Board of Directors of Family Process, and on the editorial boards of several journals. She is co-author of a textbook, Marital and Family Therapy 4th edition, and numerous chapters on adult development and couples therapy. Dr Berman was cited in Philadelphia Magazine as a Top Doc, Top Doc for Women and Top Therapist, received the Practitioner of the Year Award from the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society in 2001,
and received the Earl Bond Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2005 from the
Department of Psychiatry at University of Pennsylvania.
